 Baan Fah Sigh-y Orphanage (Thailand)

Located in Northern Thailand, Baan Fah Sigh-y is a home that takes in newborn babies who are either orphaned, abandoned or rejected by their families. Children in crisis with no hope and no future, are taken into a loving environment to provide for them, educate them and lead them into life with a positive direction and a sense of destiny.

Founded by Phil and Wanida Hohnen, Baan Fah Sigh-y works in close relationship with Thai Government Social Workers, also assisting with emergency accommodation for young pregnant women rejected by their families, and mothers with new born babies who have no home or family support.

Baan Fah Sigh-y is translated “Home of Blue Skies” likening the bright new beginning after a dark storm, to the hope given to many rejected and impoverished children of Northern Thailand. Baan Fah Sigh-y continues to grow with the first building now turned into a school room. A new dormitory was opened in 2007 to add to the nursery, staff quarters, separate kitchen and dining room. In addition there are various out-buildings including a laundry, storage shed and water tanks. Household water is provided by a bore and the fruit trees, numbering more than 100, are irrigated from the nearby river. A recreation hall is planned for construction later in 2007.

The significance of Baan Fah Sigh-y in the region continues to increase with one key Social Worker in the Thai hospital system recognizing the home as the premier facility of its kind in the region.  High accolades for such a newly established facility.
